We are excited to announce Sumaya Bouhbal in the role of Sister Spirit, The Ghost of Christmas Present in our upcoming production of “A Christmas Carol” A New Musical. World Premiere of “A Christmas Carol” is a new musical with music and lyrics by Daniel and Tami Orama and directed by Bryan Radtke. I have the honor of highlighting each cast member. In the end, there would be no show without them. I can't tell you how appreciative we are of the cast. Sumaya Bouhbal, is a young actor, singer and dancer based in New York City. She embarked on her acting career in 2009, at the age of 5 years old. Since then she landed the lead role of Jessa, in the off-Broadway production of Paula Vogel’s a civil war Christmas, a play with music, at the New York Theatre Workshop. The ensemble play was directed by Tina Landau and consisted of a cast of only 13 actors. Sumaya was the only child actor in the production, acting alongside Tony Award winner, Alice Ripley, Tony Award Nominees Bob Stillman and K. Todd Freeman and Obie Award winner, Karen Kandel. Sumaya has also studied dance for six years, taking classes in ballet, tap, hip hop, lyrical, jazz, afro-jazz and even gymnastics. Sumaya, with her dance group, competed in the 2015 McDonald’s Gospelfest dance competition, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and she performed at the 2015 New York City Dancefest, in Tompkins Square Park. In addition to her dance, she has been studying with Mr. Daniel Orama for over three years at The School Of Singing. When she is not performing, Sumaya enjoys reading in general, but she especially enjoys reading books about U.S and world history. she also enjoys visiting museums and cultural exhibits, spending time with her friends, riding her bicycle, playing video games and getting involved in school-based activities and clubs, such as student Council, chorus and band, where she studies the clarinet. Samaya loves history, especially African American History. Many a time I have listened to this bright young lady speak with passion about her love for the subject matter, teaching me plenty. I have had the honor of working with Samaya for almost four years and I have watched her grow into a beautiful young lady. Did I mention she is only 11 years old? Let me add, the performance ability that she possesses is only an outer expression of her beautiful and tender heart. I leave you with one of Sister Samaya Spirit’s lyrics, “When we give, we gotta give it from the heart”. Until the Next Time, Daniel Daniel is a highly sought after industry professional in voice instruction, especially in the art of breathing. We began our journey September 13th, 2015 with our first orientation ACC cast meeting. We sensed the excitement and at the same time anxiousness of whether this new musical was actually any good. The new cast of “A Christmas Carol” had no idea what they got themselves into, but after hearing the run through that day, they got excited.
We met only once a week, not knowing what would be coming our way over the coming weeks. Between many cast members getting sick, crazy schedules, and the horrible incidents we watched unfold around the world, the cast stayed strong and barreled through gaining victory in their pursuit of perfecting their roles. The ACC parents have added the icing on the cake for what I know will be an amazing experience for all of our families, friends, and special guests who are coming to a sold out show tonight, Friday December 4th, 8pm. We are so touched by the generosity of all the parents who have in some way added their help and touch to the show. It could not be what it is with out each of you. Life is about giving and receiving, but it is in the giving to others that makes every moment of what we receive that much more enjoyable. As I state in the lyrics by Sister Spirit to Scrooge, “You gotta give to enjoy your life Mr. Scrooge”. Being hard hearted will only leave us turning around and finding no one is in the trenches of life with us. And I always keep in the forefront of my mind, that we were never meant to go through life alone. We look forward to seeing all of you tonight and the many surprises that are in store for you the theatre goer, the ACC Cast, their families and friends. Enjoy a little timeline of pictures above. Until Tonight, (And you thought I was going to say, “Until the Next Time) Daniel and the entire ACC Team We are excited to announce Rebecca Millevoi in the roles of Goodwill, Charity Singer and Dancer in our upcoming production of “A Christmas Carol” A New Musical. World Premiere of “A Christmas Carol” is a new musical with music and lyrics by Daniel and Tami Orama and directed by Bryan Radtke. I have the honor of highlighting each cast member. In the end, there would be no show without them. I can't tell you how appreciative we are of the cast. Rebecca is 13 years old, in the 8th grade, is an honor student and student council secretary. She has been dancing since she was 3 years old with Bodies in Motion dance studio. At age eleven she sang on stage at the House of Blues in Las Vegas holding her own in an impromptu gospel competition. She has been singing ever since; performing in school talent shows, local productions of Godspell, The Drowsy Chaperone and was a finalist in the 2015 Reach for the Stars Vocal Competition. She has been studying at The School Of Singing since Sept 2014. One of her nicknames is “The Baby/Pet Whisperer” because everywhere she goes babies and animals are drawn to her gentle way (even the giant walrus at Seaworld). Her favorite candy is Swedish fish and she is addicted to watching funny YouTube videos. I clearly remember the first day I met this young lady. She was wearing a Godspell t-shirt and unbeknownst (my word for the day) to her, I was a part of a team of producers in producing the Revival of Godspell at Circle in the Square Theatre. (First person to email me that they read this blog, will receive a wonderful gift). Rebecca possesses a powerful yet sweet voice that will surely bring you to your knees or should I say “fall on your knees”.
